Chris Bangle is a hard act to follow, even for Chris Bangle. Like him or loath him, the former BMW design director is one of the most famous car designers of our times, recognised for shaking the established status quo with his ‘flame surfacing’ and his radical take on car design. Then in March 2009, after 16 solid years, Bangle announced his retirement from the Bavarian brand and – seemingly – car design.
One of the last things we expect to see is a Mini towing around a 22-foot Airstream trailer, but that's exactly what will be on display in Milan, Italy, at the Salone del Mobile show in April. The one-off concept brings together the two iconic brands to produce a combination that surely will please beachgoers. For a modern styling touch, the duo tapped furniture producers Republic of Fritz Hansen to work its magic on the Cooper S Clubman tow car and the Airstream trailer.
The Volvo V40 (pictured) gets Volvo’s new Drive-e engines
Last year Volvo revealed its new, efficient and flexible Drive-e engines and plans to offer them in the S60, V60 and XC60 with a 179bhp D4 and a 302bhp T6. Now, the new Volvo V40 is getting Drive-e powertrains. Both the V40 and the V40 Cross Country are getting Drive-e engine options, with both the D4 diersel and T5 petrol coming on-stream from May 2014.
